Space Available for 2013-14
We still have room for a couple more children to join us this fall 2013 at our Terrace Children's House at 3060 SE Stark St.  It is nestled in an assisted living center for the elderly; the large brick buildings of the elder-care center create a courtyard where we have our playground and gardens, attached to the classroom.

Most children begin at age three and then are a part of the classroom community until they are ready for first grade. Children who graduate from this classroom have a space reserved in our elementary and middle school programs at our NW Portland campus.

Another important thing to know about this class is that there is no childcare available after 3:00, so your schedule options would be 8:30 - 12:45 or 8:30 - 3:00 (and optional early care from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.)

Our Campus Grows!

Childpeace is excited to announce that Metro Montessori Middleschool (MMM) will have a new home starting this fall.  The building is on NW Savier and 15th, just across the street from the southeast corner of our main building.  Our dream for MMM students to have a facility of their own has been realized! We will start working with a design-build team soon to get construction underway to be ready by Fall.

What does the new building offer?

  • A larger space that is a more intentional fit for the work of these older students.  MMM currently uses around 2000 square feet in the mezzanine of the main building.  The new space offers 5000 with an opportunity to expand further.
  • Room for expanded enrollment.  Long term plans forecast a group size of 45 students, double the number of our current enrollment.
  • Dedicated spaces for lessons and work in the sciences, humanities, and arts.
  • Storefront for entrepreneurial projects (currently the Metro Shoppe, a bicycle repair service, and dog biscuit venture).
  • An affordable lease, with an option to purchase

MMM provides a continuous Montessori experience from early childhood up to high school, and creates a Montessori foundation for higher education during a very critical time of a person's development.  Our MMM alumni have met with resounding success in a full range of academic areas as well as extra-curricular activities at private, parochial, and public high schools.

Our expanded NW campus (main building, playground, green space, and MMM building) will more fully meet the needs of all our Childpeace/MMM children.

Montessori Hours - Open to the public
Your attendance at a Montessori Hour will help you know if Montessori education would be a good fit for your family. Attending a Montessori Hour is the beginning of our enrollment process; we offer three different topics so that you can attend more than one topic and gather a deeper level of information about our approach to education at Childpeace.

To attend one or more of these events, please RSVP by email or call the school to reserve your place.

Monday, May 20 - 5:30pm - Montessori at Home with Merri Whipps
Monday, June 24 - 9:30am - Intro to Montessori with Sue Pritzker
